For our first profile we’re going to take a look at the one and only, Gina Rodriguez.
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve certainly heard of the wildly successful television show, Jane the Virgin. The show stars Gina Rodriguez as Jane, a young woman with her life all figured out until she becomes pregnant due to an artificial insemination mishap at her local clinic. Premiering in October of 2014, Jane The Virgin became a hit, propelling Gina Rodriguez into the spotlight. Gina made national headlines when she won a Golden Globe in the category of Best Actress for that same role. Her acceptance speech was nothing short of phenomenal (it’s worth noting that Gina beat out the likes of Lena Dunham, Edie Falco and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, winning the first ever Golden Globe for the CW network). It’s a no-brainer that the show will be entering it’s third season this fall.
What makes Gina Rodriguez truly amazing is her innate ability to remain humble. Gina understands her position of influence, and uses her platform to inspire her fans to do the impossible. You won’t see Gina getting wild in a Vegas nightclub. Instead, you will hear her give speeches that inspire us to be more than what society says we are.

Gina recently started what she calls “Movement Mondays.” What she does is highlight a particular Latino entertainer who’s making huge moves in the industry. Gina understands that there is a serious lack of people of color with prominent roles in television and film so she uses her stardom to put other rising talent in front of herself. Recently, Gina hit 1 million followers on Instagram. She recorded a thank you video that is honestly the most genuine, heartfelt thing on the internet. Gina says in her video that she is a complete stranger to her fans. I beg to differ. The reason Gina is so loved is because she has the ability to make you feel like you matter. She takes nothing for granted and is humble enough to take time out of her busy day to let you know.
Celebrities can sometimes have an inauthentic vibe to them, but Gina is an exception to this rule. She’s beautiful, smart, kind, thoughtful, humble, God-fearing, genuine, and the list goes on. My brother and I had the honor of meeting Gina at The Sundance Film Festival in January of 2015. We took a few photos and had some time for a short conversation. We ended our chat by telling her that one day we hope to work with her. Gina looked at us and said, “We will.” In a world full of Kardashians, be a Gina Rodriguez.
Gina’s next project is a film called Deep Water Horizon starring Mark Wahlberg. It hits theaters September 30, 2016.
